If you’re in the process of moving to a new site or looking to renovate your existing one, you’ll need to have your utility supplies disconnected as this will prevent the risk of cutting through live groundwork.

Arranging the disconnections of your existing utility services can be a complex and time consuming process, especially if you’re attempting to do it yourself. You can often end up spending hours on the phone, sending emails back and forth and trying to gather all of the correct information and registration numbers. Fortunately, at National Energy Direct, we’re a one stop shop for all your utility needs, including disconnections.

How Does it Work?

When planning the disconnection of utility connections, we work with you or your project contractor to ensure we arrange the disconnection at the appropriate stage of your building process. Our team of professionals then work to suit your budget and complete the work to a strict deadline, avoiding any unnecessary delays in your building timeline.

What Information Will I Need to Apply for a Disconnection?

In order to apply for utility disconnections, you must provide us with the correct necessary information so we can submit an application to the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) as soon as possible to prevent any delays in the process.

You’ll need to provide us with:

What is the Disconnection Process?

Quotation

Following an assessment of your site and the requirements of your disconnection, we’ll provide you with a quote, detailing the work required.

Payment

Once you’re happy to continue with the work, we’ll send over all the relevant paperwork that you need to sign. Once you’ve signed them, you’ll send them back along with the necessary payment.

Notify the Suppliers

When we have received the signed paperwork and the payment has been accepted, we’ll notify your gas, water and/or electricity suppliers on your behalf and give them plenty of notice to give them time to remove their metering equipment.

Schedule Work In

We aim to give you an accurate schedule and deadline, however, sometimes things don’t always go to plan, especially if we require highway permits for example, in which case the process can be prolonged. If your project becomes delayed, we will discuss the schedule with you and try to arrange the most suitable and convenient dates for all parties involved.

Carry Out Work

Once all the dates have been scheduled in, we’ll get to work! We will carry out the disconnection which typically involves excavation outside the boundary of your property- but don’t worry, you’ll be made aware of all our plans prior to carrying out the work out and we’ll keep you updated throughout the process.

Project Confirmation

Once all the work has been completed, we’ll send you a disconnection confirmation letter for your records.

How Long Does the Disconnection Process Take?

Every disconnection project is unique and depends on the property, the existing connections and the location, so we can only provide a general estimate of timescales. Usually, a disconnection can take anywhere from 21 days right up to 6 months, however, you will be provided with a more accurate estimated completion date when we assess your site’s individual circumstances.

Do I Need to Inform My Utility Provider of the Disconnection?

We will inform your utility providers of the planned disconnection and provide them with the schedule as they may wish to remove the existing metering equipment. You will, however, need to speak to them directly regarding the cancellation of your contract.

As we mentioned earlier, National Energy Direct is a one-stop-shop for all of your utility needs, including new connections.
