If you’re building multiple new domestic properties with a new road, you’ll more than likely need new water connections. At National Energy Direct, we can get your properties connected to the water network and manage the entire process for you, so you can focus on your everyday tasks with fewer interruptions.

How Does it Work?

When planning the installation of water connections for new build homes, we work with your project contractor to ensure we arrange the installation at the appropriate stage of your building process. Our team of professionals then work to suit your budget and complete the work to a strict deadline, avoiding any unnecessary delays in your building timeline.

What Information Will I Need to Apply for a New Water Connection?

In order to apply for new water connections, you must provide us with the correct necessary information so we can submit an application to the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) as soon as possible to prevent any delays in the process.

You’ll need to provide us with:

Things to Consider Before Applying for a New Water Connection

Planning Permission

Prior to applying for a new water connection, we would expect that you have had the planning permission for your new development site approved. If your development has no yet had its planning permission approved, it is important for you to get approval as any potential changes could interfere with the new water connection designs and plans.

Type of Development and Site Layout

In order for us to effectively plan and design your new water connections, you’ll need to provide us with a detailed site layout plan, preferably in the style of a CAD drawing as this allows us to be as accurate as possible.

What Was the Site Used for Previously?

Before installing your new water connections, we need to ensure they won’t be contaminated from anything that may be in the ground from previous use. This requires a Soil Analysis or Ground Investigation Report and will need to be submitted as part of your application. If you don’t have a completed report, we will need to install protective pipework. This is also required if your site is within 100m of a petrol station or industrial buildings.

What Happens Next?

Once the necessary information is gathered, we will design the water connection plan and produce a CAD drawing of the design for you to either approve, or suggest alterations. From this point, we will then liaise with you and the local council about the legalities of the work and when all has been settled, the design will be sent to your local water supplier for approval.

Once everything has been approved and finalised, we’ll be able to schedule the work and provide you with an accurate timescale for the project.

How Long Do New Water Connections Take to Install?

The time it takes to complete water connections depends on several factors that must be assessed, but on average you can expect the installation to take anywhere between 6-12 weeks. It’s important, however, to remember that these are just rough estimates and that your project may take longer depending on factors such as:

How Much Does a New Water Connection Cost?

The cost for a new water connection also varies greatly and depends on a range of factors such as where the main is in relation to your property and whether or not the supply company needs to excavate unmade ground, pavements, or roads in order to make the connection.
